Every Good Boy Deserves A Favor
Chapter 10
Nearly a week passed at Hellsing Manor. Mina and Integra were both trying to adjust to the unfamiliar situations they both now faced. Mina was well received and liked by everyone at Hellsing with the exception of Sir Hellsing. She had not so much as caught a glimpse of the commander and felt relief to be ignored. Seras spent every possible minute with Mina and the two were very close in just a few days time. As Walter had suspected, the two were very much alike in many aspects.
Some of Minas personal items had been brought to the manor by some of the Queens men and equipment would be arriving within another week so she could continue her research. The Queen had also assured Mina that more of her personal items would be gathered and brought as soon as possible, meaning her books, photos, journals, movies and music.
At first Mina protested as she had no desire to stay at Hellsing Manor, but Her Majesty simply played her I am your adopted grandmother and I want you alive and safe card so Mina relented. The Queen had taken care of Mina since her fathers death when she was 13. Her Majesty had asked Mina if Alucard was bothering her and Mina honestly replied that he in fact does not but his incarceration has a negative effect on Seras as well as his person and she wished it to end. The Queen consulted Walter and agreed but Integra only let Alucard out for missions.
Integra was not used to having another woman around, never once considering Seras as anything more than another vampire. It bothered Integra most that this particular woman was not under her control. Integra was used to being in control of all around her and here was a woman who could do as she pleased and even command Integra if she so desired to. The Queen had been very specific in her orders to Sir Hellsing. She was to see to Minas comfort, safety and wishes. Her Majesty had gone so far as to instruct Integra to treat Mina as if she were the Queen herself and obey her in all things. This really gnawed at Integras sense of control as well as her Pride. She would obey no one other than God and the Queen.
She was Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, commander of the Hellsing Organization and no Harker was going to command HER. Integra seethed at the thought. Unknown to Integra another was seething furious with her thoughts. In his cell in the dungeon, Alucard could hear his Masters thoughts too loudly and clearly and he did not like the tone or direction they were taking. The ancient vampire was clearly becoming terribly agitated and that was spilling over to his fledgling the next level up.
Seras was finding it impossible to get any rest the past couple days. Integra was distracted, which the fledgling found was a good thing as Sir Hellsing ignored her. Seras was usually belittled, berated and yelled at by Sir Hellsing for one thing or another. Her Masters Master barely tolerated her and Seras was always on edge. She literally was holding her breath waiting for the day the command would come down for Alucard to destroy her. She was quite certain that once her usefulness was over she would be exterminated without a second thought.
These depressing thoughts were not uncommon for Seras as she frequently dwelt on them, but there was a feeling of dread she could swear was not coming from her and was quite powerful. This could only mean one thing Alucard was upset by something and having an effect on her through their Master-Fledgling bond. As loathed as she was to travel to his cell the next level down, Seras felt she had to find out what was bothering him. Perhaps then she could get a little rest.
Seras made her way down to her Masters cell and knocked on the door. She waited for what seemed like an eternity until she finally saw the door open and Alucard bid her to enter. He sat in his throne like chair with anger radiating off him in waves that Seras thought she could almost see. As she approached him there was no doubt in her mind that she could certainly feel his anger mounting.
Finally, standing before him, she asked, Master, what is troubling you so? Is there anything I can do to help you? A devious grin the likes of which Seras had never seen before spread across her Masters face as he raised his head to look at her. His eyes were blazing frighteningly and Seras gasped. She was considering bolting out of the room as fast as her vampire legs would take her when her Master suddenly spoke. Why, little Seras, would you want to help your Master, the Hellsing Pet Monster? To be a good little fledgling or is there another reason? Tell me Seras.
Seras didnt realize she had started to tremble. Something in her Masters demeanor had changed dramatically and she did not like it one bit. Sure he frightened her sometimes but this was terrifying beyond words for her. It was as if his sanity had snapped and left him. He resembled a very dangerous animal about to devour her. Upon realizing she truly was in danger Seras shut her eyes and wished to be somewhere safe. She then thought of Mina and disappeared from the cell.
Alucard had not even noticed Seras had vanished. Integra was thinking loudly once again and he was distracted by her thoughts. This time her thoughts drifted to the missing experimentation journals. Her search was coming up empty at every turn. She had just received word back from the descendants of the Seward, Holmwood, Westerna and remaining Harker families, except for Mina, that they knew nothing of any journals and several had gone so far as to check their libraries to be sure. Sir Hellsing had also inquired at the Tower of London and was told no journals or books of any kind were housed there. It was suggested she look to the National Library Archives, which she had also pursued but came up empty handed. It was frustrating her to no end, which delighted her vampire servant lightening his mood some.
Mina had been sitting at the desk in her rooms sorting through reports. Some of her colleagues had delved into her research adding little new information. Mina, however, wanted to be sure no stone was left unturned as she looked over each of the documents.
Suddenly, she felt a presence and heard a squeak behind her which startled her. As she turned to see who had entered undetected and half expecting it to be Alucard, she was further startled to see Seras on her knees shaking like a leaf in a cyclone. Mina quickly rose and went to aid the fledgling fearing Seras had somehow been injured.
Seras opened her eyes when she felt someone gently touch her shoulder and was clearly stunned to see Mina before her. Seras, are you alright? Are you hurt anywhere? Mina inquired. No Seras stammered, Im not hurt, but Master Alucard
.
Whats happened to Vlad, Seras? Mina asked grabbing Seras by both shoulders.
I think hes gone mad Seras simply stated. She then told Mina what she had been feeling and what she encountered in his cell. Mina was shocked but quickly recovered. She knew she had to talk to him and get him back on track. She quickly guided Seras to her feet and asked her to take her to her Masters room.
Seras quickly said, I dont think thats a good idea Mina. Master is clearly not himself and he might drain you dry. Mina knew Seras was only thinking of her safety, but Seras had no idea what the Nosferatu had been though at the hands of Abraham and Arthur. Mina knew because she had read all the journals her father had been given by Abraham, which was before she had burned them all. She did not want anyone else ever subjected to such horrors. She shivered thinking of how such things would affect Seras if Integra or any of the Hellsings were to decide to improve her. She knew she had done the right thing when she burned all those wretched volumes. In her mind the only Monster at Hellsing was the leaders themselves.
