Every Good Boy Deserves A Favor
Chapter 11
Seras led Mina to her Masters cell deep in the sublevels of Hellsing Manor. Lighting was poor; the air was stagnant and thick. Mina was aghast that Vlad was subjected to such living conditions; even if he technically was undead he still was once human and should be treated more humanely than this. Death Row inmates get better conditions and treatment than this, Mina mused. She set her mind to make sure things changed for the better for both Vlad and Seras.
Arriving before the massive metal door, Mina could see what she assumed was dried blood forming a gigantic rune upon the door, frame and surrounding wall. The Hellsing seal she noted. Mina strode forward and pushed on the door which groaned as it slowly opened. As her eyes tried to adjust to the darkness of the room, Seras took a protective stance next to the petite human.
Vlad, I could use a little light here before I fall and break something I might just find important she called out into the darkness. All at once candles burst to flame and light filled the barren space. Sitting in the throne like chair in the center of the room was the vampire. Seras fidgeted nervously not knowing how her Master would react.
Thank you, that is so much better. Now tell me Vlad what has you so upset that even I can feel your anger flowing about the place? Mina inquired. Seras noted that her Master just sat there looking at the woman who just spoke as if she were an angel speaking to him, but then Seras knew that no one beside herself and possibly Walter had ever cared about Alucard and how he felt. This was someone else showing that they in a way cared about him and he was probably a bit shocked. She checked her bond with him and did not get any sense that he would harm Mina and was startled to find that she could sense that he was indeed shocked.
Seras didnt notice that Mina had moved forward and was now directly in front of her Master until she heard Minas voice, What has you so upset Vlad? Seras quickly moved to be by Minas side in case he should suddenly try anything, although she knew there would be little she could do to stop the much more powerful No-Life King. Alucard looked at his fledgling that was suddenly by Minas side and felt a sense of pride in her actions. He smiled warmly at his fledgling before turning back to Mina.
Forgive me, Dr Harker. It was never my intention to disturb you in any way. I did not realize my behavior would also affect you. I will try to control the influence I have on my fledgling so I will not be a bother to either of you in future. The Master vampire answered.
Are you avoiding my question Vlad? It is my personal peeve and I consider omission, evasion, bending, stretching or otherwise not providing the complete truth the same as lying. Would you lie to me Vlad? Mina asked with raised eyebrows.
Seras noticed the look on her Masters face change from the impassive façade she was most familiar with to one of disgust that appeared to be turned toward him. Seras knew her Master hated liars with a passion and that he never outright lied, but rather evaded or omitted details to suit him. Mina called him out and Seras was starting to worry what the outcome would be when Alucard suddenly fell on his knees before Mina and appeared to beg her forgiveness. Seras was stunned.
Forgive me Dr Harker. My Master is upset that she cannot find Abraham and Arthurs journals detailing the experiments done by them on vampires. She is also upset that the Queen insists that you stay here and also demanded that I not be incarcerated during your stay. I fear she may try to harm you or simply let you be harmed if attacked Alucard stated, then venomously growled and that angers me.
Now it was Minas turn to be stunned. Would Integra really go against the Queens orders and allow her to be harmed? It did appear that she was keeping Vlad away from her and he would be her best protection. Why would Integra do that? So many questions were making her head spin or perhaps it was the possible answers that were causing Mina to feel as if she were falling.
Mina had felt the need to flee Hellsing Manor the moment Integras voice bellowed in this very room that fateful night but now she felt it pull at her with nearly unbearable force. The instinct of fight or flight was pulling at the petite woman and she was unsure of what to do. Then Mina thought of Vlad and Seras. If she left they would be no better and possibly worse off than they were right now. She would not forgive herself for allowing that to happen.
Mina pulled her resolve together and knelt down in front of Alucard. She took his face in her small hands and pulled it up until his ruby met her sapphire eyes, then she spoke, Vlad, whatever Integra may think or even try, her actions will have consequences I highly doubt she will be willing to pay. You and Seras are vital to the survival of all mankind; not only to this island nation but all nations. Her Majesty will be appalled to hear of how you two are being treated and any action taken against either of you while in service to the Crown will be considered an act of treason. Things are going to change around here whether Integra likes it or not starting right now. Can you and Seras get me to the Queen or should I have Walter arrange for us to be taken to her?
Night has not yet fallen and vampires have little power during the daylight. However, I believe it would be best to leave Walter out of this. Perhaps the French Captain can take us? Alucard answered. He was right of course. It was only 2 in the afternoon and Walter would have to report to Integra so it would be best to leave him out of this. Captain Pip was the best option at this point. Sure Mina or Seras could drive but Seras was quite fatigued and Mina was too upset to trust her own driving skills.
Seras would you go and make arrangements with Captain Pip to take us and then meet Vlad and me out front? Mina asked.
Seras feeling her Master would be no threat to her, waved, Sure thing Mina. No problem. Off she went to find the perverted Frenchman leaving her Master and Mina to make their way on their own.
Once Seras had left on her mission, Alucard turned to Mina once again. Her hands were still on his face holding him softly. Dr Harker
. He began but was swiftly cut off by that very person. Mina, please if it is not too painful for you call me Mina she asked or Ellie. My father occasionally called me Ellie.
Mina. Alucard seemed to roll the name off of his tongue as if it were silk. Mina I want you to know that I will do everything within my power to see to your safety. I will never hurt you nor will I allow you to be turned into a vampire. Like your grandmother you are not meant for this cursed existence.
Thank you Vlad. I have no desire to become an undead and I hope to live long enough to stop these freaks. Anything else at this point is a bonus. Mina smiled and stood to make her way to meet Seras and Captain Pip. Alucard rose to his full towering height dwarfing the petite woman who now walked beside him. To think the world has not beheld this site in well over 500 years Alucard mused as they, the former Voivod of Romania beside the woman who looked like his beloved Elizabeta, walked on.
