CHAPTER EIGHT
Seras was powerless to move or act as Razor advanced upon her. The chains that held her to the wall were too much even for her strength, something which she was still growing into. She felt the sting of the blade piercing her shoulder. It hurt too much to scream, for the blade was silver and burned her flesh.
So this is what Hellsing sends to kill me a little girl. Razor snarled.
Oh, God, she prayed Alucard would arrive. She knew he and Sophie were on the way too it was what they were sent out to do. Where were they? She asked herself as she groaned in pain. She tried to turn the pain to her advantage to make her angrier, so she could find the power to burst out of the chains and give her captor a serious kicking. But it didnt happen, and she felt a second explosion of pain as Razor drove another silver spike into her other shoulder. Damn her and her stupidity. Why did she have to make this a personal matter? Going after Razor alone was all because she wanted to prove to her master, and to Integra, that she was every bit the solider they thought she never could be. She wanted to impress her master, because she resented playing second fiddle to Sophie. Why, of all the times she could have done it, why did it have to be now? When the life of her masters master, Sir Integra Wingates Hellsing, depended on this vampire the one driving silver spikes into her body right now being destroyed. Why did she have to be so bloody selfish?
The stupid girl, Alucard spat, what does she think she is doing?
Sophie rose to her feet and loaded her pistols. Well, so much for a surprise attack. she said decidedly, We must act now.
ALUCARD!
The womans voice hit Alucard like a runaway train. Immediately he knew Alastair had found her. He had so wanted to take out the vampire filth, Razor, but his masters call was his masters call, and he had to obey.
Sophie looked at him anxiously. Hes going to kill her! she said. Lets go!
Take care of Razor. My master needs me now.
Immediately Sophie understood and smiled a knowing smile.
Go get im, she said, and turned and ran for the warehouse, and Razor. She heard the fluttering of wings as he turned into a flock of countless bats and flew into the dark sky.
Walter braced the steel door after it proved less of an obstacle to Alastair than at first was thought. It was bowed inwards already, and Walter pushed his body hard against it. He flew back as Alastair collided with it again, though the door did not yield. Walter hit the ground and his head met the marble floor with a sickening thud, knocking him cold.
Integra grabbed a ceremonial sword from above the family coat of arms on the wall. She grimly turned and faced the door in time for it to give way and burst open. Alastair slowly entered the room. He had a wicked smile playing across his face.
Your butler really did a number on me back there, he said, annoyed. Can you believe how long it took to get it together again? he laughed mirthlessly at the pun. He walked straight up to Integra.
Do you really think that little sword is going to save you? he sneered at her.
Integra swung the sword and Alastairs head hit the floor a few feet from his body. His head still spoke as his body grabbed her firmly by the arms. It leaned in close as if there was still a head there, leaning in to whisper.
Dont do that again. Said Alastair from the floor.
He threw her down and stood on her chest, pinning her to the floor.
Your little stunt is only prolonging the agony, my child. Nothing can kill me.
He snapped his fingers and his head disappeared and rematerialised on his neck.
Now, stop wasting my time. I have a lot more of you to get through before Im done.
For the first time in over a decade Integra feared for her life. Alastair was unbeatable. She prayed Alucard would arrive soon, to help her buy time while Sophie took care of Razor. She prayed Sophie would just finish the job soon, and it would all be over.
A tear battled to fall from her eye.
Face it, little girl, your boss is already dead. Razor said, And you will be next. But Im going to make it slow and painful because you dared to insult me by hiding in the shadows, about to shoot me down like some kind of game animal.
He raised the blade and pointed it to her neck. He noticed casually the scar that was there. But he shrugged it off and pinned Seras to the wall through the neck.
It was a familiar feeling for the young vampire girl. Also familiar was the faint whistling sound of something sharp flying through the air. Her chains burst open in a shower of sparks, and she fell to the floor, clutching her neck. Razor turned and blocked the flying blade that came for him with a sword. It was sheared in half by the sharp, spinning disc, which had come from Sophie, about forty feet away.
Why dont you pick on someone your own size? she challenged.
Oh! Another assassin. Razor chirped. Fine. Come at me. Try to kill me if you can.
Oh, you bet I can! she ran for him, drawing her sword as she moved. She ran, however, straight into an army of ghouls, which had suddenly appeared from what seemed to be nowhere.
Seras gained the strength to leap up and attack Razor, but without even looking, he casually swatted her into the wall with a nonchalant whip of the arm.
Oh
Sophie breathed, and drew her pistols.
Integras skin burned as the hand of Alastair pressed against her chest. There was fire in his eyes and he laughed mercilessly. Integra gritted her teeth against the pain, and growled. No way was she going to scream like a girl. She was going to die like a true warrior.
Releasing control art system to level one
What the-? Alastair wheeled around at the voice behind him.
Alucard casually leant in the doorway.
Hold until target is silenced.
Alastair laughed loudly and cruelly. So the great Alucard wants to play fun and games? I guess I could stop for some fun.
Alucard grinned wickedly and his eyed flickered brightly.
Excellent! he said gratifyingly. Fast as lightning, he raced toward Alastair. Instantly the two were gripping each other by the throat. Integra watched with a faint smile of relief and amusement. She and Alucard both knew there could be no way of killing Alastair but the fight would buy them some time.
I do hope this is not over too soon, Alucard grinned evilly, My associate has your master, and she will be silencing him.
Good luck to her, Alastair spat, he is more than a match for any slayer.
Alucard roared gleefully and punched Alastair in the face, to his amusement it crushed beneath his fist. The demons grip slackened on Alucards throat. Alucard dropped Alastair, and looked down at the shattered figure.
Is that all? Youre not any fun at all pitiful creature.
Alastair leapt up immediately, his face reconstructing as quick as he rose. A gun appeared in his hand, which fired rapidly and randomly at Alucard, tearing gaping holes in the flesh of the unflinching vampire who held fast as he let his nemesis let rip.
His jaw detached in a flurry of blood and bone,
His left arm blew apart and fell to the floor with a splat.
His torso ripped apart and it was possible to see right through him.
His left eye disappeared as bullets tore through his skull.
Alastair laughed maniacally as he riddled the vampire with every bullet in every area of his body.
When the shooting stopped, Alucard stood silently for a moment. There was no visible sign of movement.
Then he dropped like a sack of shit.
How disappointing, said Alastair, I was hoping you would last a lot longer. Not so much the great Alucard I was expecting.
Alucard responded by not moving, or saying a thing.
Integra stared in shock. Could this really be? Could Alastair have actually killed her apparently indestructible protector and servant? What were the bullets made of? Was this the end for her?
Enough fucking around! Alastair roared. Time for you to go back to your father! He grabbed her again and threw her across the room, crashing into the wall. Integra lay silent, blood oozing from her head.
Alucard still lay silent.
Sophie fired her pistols and took out ghoul after ghoul. Seras lay unconscious on the floor. Razor watched with glee, the brave young woman so hell-bent on destroying her, fight her way through his army of slaves.
A ghoul leapt upon her, and with a swift, barely visible movement, she reduced the creature by fifty per cent, and to follow up, let out a back-kick that decapitated another that advanced on her. Almost unconsciously she fired to her left and her front, perforating more ghouls and reducing them to dust.
Razor was impressed and alarmed when he saw her slice the last remaining ghoul in half from top to bottom.
It seems I underestimated you, slayer. Razor said grimly. You must be a worthy opponent. With this he clicked his fingers and a fresh sword appeared in his hand.
En garde, he announced, and the two collided with each other, swords chiming together. In a balletic display, they fought grimly and fiercely.
Sophie blocked a strong attack from above and gracefully pirouetted in order to attack his side, which was blocked by a deftly placed blade. Razors elbow met her square in the jaw, and she was thrown back, quickly she leapt to her feet and parried the attack that had already made its way to her.
Swipe, parry, block, kick. The fight was without fault or favour. It seemed unending.
Seras woke and through blurred eyes she saw the two figures fighting to the death. She groped her way up the wall, to find her feet, but fell face down again. The silver had made her weak, and it was a feeling only matched by the time Paladin Anderson had skewered her mercilessly in Ireland. Angrily she looked up to see where Sophie and Razor had gone.
It was at that moment she saw the gun.
Alucard was still silent, motionless. Like Integra he was a body, helpless on the marble floor. Alastair placed his hand on Integra again. The burning woke her with a start and she let out an agonised yell. She felt as if her soul was being forcefully sucked from her body. In fact, her soul was being sucked out of her, slowly and painfully.
Alu- she tried to call his name, but the searing pain stopped it. She did, however, manage to find the strength to say Damn
demon
Bastard!
What was that? Alastair said sarcastically.
I hope
I go
to Hell, she said.
And why is that, child?
So I can
kill you there
!
BACK NOW, VAMPIRE! Alastair yelled, throwing his spare hand behind him.
Integra looked through the tears surging into her eyes to see that Alucard had made a last-ditch attempt to reform and stop Alastair. But instead he hung helplessly in the air, fighting to escape the spell that held him there.
Your masters time is up I WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY MORE INTERRUPTIONS! he leaned in closer to Integras face. Just a few more moments and it will all be over. Your vampire will have no master, and your butler will have to find a new job
he laughed again, and Integra closed her eyes, and hoped it would end soon. She would not give up, though she would find him in the afterlife and give him a serious fucking up PERSONALLY. All he could feel was the burning, all she could hear was the laughing.
Suddenly it all stopped.
The evil laughter stopped.
The pain stopped.
Integra felt an enormous surge take her body over, and everything was silent.
Her eyes, she guessed, were still closed.
The silence was deafening.
Master?
What the f-? Integra bravely popped an eye open, and looked right up at Alucard, stood over her with that great big toothy grin that was all too familiar.
Master Hellsing?
Alucard? What the hell just happened?
I think you can safely say that Sophie finished the job. The vampire offered a hand to her.
Sophie stared in disbelief and dismay at the body rapidly turning into dust before her eyes. She barely heard it happen. She barely noticed the vampires head explode.
Seras stared grimly at the space in the air where Razors head used to be, still holding the smoking pistol. Still pointing it at a target that was now silenced.
Sophie lowered her sword, which was still midway to striking a blow on a vampire that no longer stood in front of her, and looked at Seras. Seras looked back and was surprised to see a look of disgruntled annoyance on the slayers face.
All Sophie could say to her was:
About bloody time!
THE END (finally!)
